Squid Theory

Squid Theory was performed at Squid Festival, held in a small fishing town in Tasmania called Triabunna. It was great to collaborate with the musicians to create a journey through the abstract worlds of squid, and a pretty big challenge projecting on the sail of a yacht in motion (motoring not sailing!).
I had fun experimenting with combining ink paintings, created in workshops with the local school kids, with Unreal Engine outputs, and blending it all together using Stable Diffusion, which at the time (September 2022) was just emerging, and the open source community was in full force. It was great working alongside the Deforum discord community to fix bugs in the tool as i experimented with feeding the iamges through emerging workflows, resulting in some amazing textural discoveries! Here’s an excerpt of the performance.

Comparison between input (ink paintings created by local school kids, animated in AE) and output (Stable Diffusion, Deforum)
